Connect to Wi-Fi at Viewpoint for macOS

These instructions apply to personally-owned Apple macOS devices, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Neo.  If you need instructions to select a different device type, click HERE.   For a printable download of this guide, click HERE.
 

BEFORE you begin:

Prerequesite:  You must have admin-level access to your device, either through your own login or by using a dedicated administrator account.

Remove old Wi-Fi configurations

If you previously were configured to use the legacy Wi-Fi "VPS", you'll need to remove that configuration.

Open System Settings > General > Device Management.
         (Older version of macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles)

Select the Viewpoint School VPS Wi-Fi profile.

Click the (-) minus button at the bottom of the window to remove the profile.  Select Remove to Confirm.

Step 1: Make sure your device is online

You'll need an internet connection to complete setup.

• On campus: connect to any open onboarding Wi-Fi network.
• Off campus: connect to any trusted Wi-Fi network.
• Already connected? You're ready to continue.

Step 2: Sign in to Your Viewpoint Google Account

Open Chrome or Safari and go to     myaccount.google.com    

If prompted to sign in, use your Viewpoint credentials.

If you are already signed in with a personal account, click on the account icon at top right and select your Viewpoint account; if not in the list or known accounts, click "add an account" and sign in with your Viewpoint credentials.

Step 3: Download the configuration files

• In your web browser, open https://wifi.viewpoint.org
   
• Click the button Viewpoint Wi-Fi (Recommended).
  
   
• Your Mac should automatically be detected.  Click Sign In to authenticate your session.  If prompted, select your Viewpoint account.
• Once authenticated, the red button will change to "Join Now."  Press Join Now. 
  
   
• Your browser will automatically download a configuration file named “SecureW2.mobileconfig” to your Downloads.  Click on Downloads and select the file.  
                  
   
• You will see a notification to open System Settings.  Press OK.
  

Step 4: Install the configuration files

Open System Settings … in the top left, you will see “Profile Downloaded.”  Click on it to open Device Management window.  Not opening automatically?

• Running Modern macOS:  System Settings → General → Device Management
• Older macOS versions:  System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles

Tip: If you don't see either option, press ⌘ + Space and search for Profiles or Device Management.
 

• Double click on the downloaded profile "Viewpoint Wi-Fi Configuration".
  Press Install.
  
   
• Press Install again.
  
   

• Authenticate (again!) using your Mac's password or Touch ID.

  
   

• ⚠️ IMPORTANT: do NOT press "Allow".
  Enter your Mac password, then select Always Allow.  
  
  TIP: Choosing Allow instead causes a password prompt each time you connect to Viewpoint Wi-Fi. If you accidentally clicked "Allow", you'll see this prompt again; next time select "Always Allow." 

Step 5: Final settings for "Viewpoint" Wi-Fi

Open System Settings > Wi-Fi.  Click the (...) button next to the network and select Network Settings. 



Under the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network, make the following changes:

• Set Private Wi-Fi Address to Off.
• Turn Limit IP Address Tracking Off.
  
  

Note: These settings are required for the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network and help ensure your device can connect and operate correctly. These settings only apply to the Viewpoint network and do not affect other Wi-Fi networks you join.

Finally hover over "Viewpoint" and press Connect.  
Your MacBook should now automatically connect to "Viewpoint" whenever you are on campus.

Reminder: ⚠️ If prompted: do NOT press "Allow".
Enter your Mac password, then select Always Allow.  

 

Step 6: Remove Old Wi-Fi Networks

To help ensure your Mac automatically connects only to the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network on campus, remove any previously saved Viewpoint wireless networks that are no longer needed.

1. Open System Settings → Wi-Fi.
2. Under Known Networks, look for other saved networks such as Onboarding-2026 or ViewpointGuest.
3. Click the (...) button next to each network.

4. Select Forget This Network.
   

    

Final Notes

Congratulations! Setup is complete.

Your Mac should now automatically connect to the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network whenever you're on campus. This setup should continue to work for up to five years, provided your Viewpoint account remains active.
