Connect to Wi-Fi at Viewpoint for macOS

These instructions apply to Apple macOS devices, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Neo.  If you need instructions to select a different device type, click HERE.
 

Step 1: Make sure your device is online

You'll need an internet connection to complete setup.

• On campus: connect to any open onboarding Wi-Fi network.
• Off campus: connect to any trusted Wi-Fi network.
• Already connected? You're ready to continue.

Step 2: Sign in to Your Viewpoint Google Account

Open Chrome or Safari and go to     https://myaccount.google.com    

If prompted to sign in, use your Viewpoint credentials.

If you are already signed in with a personal account, click on the account icon at top right and select your Viewpoint account; if not in the list or known accounts, click "add an account" and sign in with your Viewpoint credentials.

Step 3: Download the Viewpoint Wi-Fi Setup App

• In your web browser, open https://wifi.viewpoint.org
• Click the button Viewpoint Wi-Fi (Recommended).
  
   
• Your Mac should automatically be detected.  Click JoinNow to begin downloading the Viewpoint Wi-Fi Setup App.
  
   
• A file named Viewpoint_WiFi_Setup.dmg will be downloaded to your Mac.   
  Double-click the downloaded file to open it, then launch Viewpoint_WiFi_Setup.app.
                  
   
• Press OPEN at the prompt.  (The first time you open any new app, macOS asks you to confirm that you want to open an application downloaded from the Internet.)
  
   
• Authenticate using your Mac's Touch ID or Mac password.
  Tip: Your Mac password is the password you use to unlock your computer. Your Viewpoint password is the password you use to sign in to your Viewpoint account.
  

Step 4: Sign in with your Viewpoint Account

• Next we must authenticate with a valid Viewpoint account.  
  Press NEXT.
  
   
• Your browser will show a Sign In page. Select your Viewpoint account. 
  
  (If your Viewpoint account is not listed, select Use another account and sign in with your Viewpoint account.)
  
  You should see a message that authentication was successful.
  

Step 5: Install Configuration files

• Now that your credentials have been validated, we can begin the onboarding process.

  Press NEXT.
  
   
• The JoinNow client will now download a configuration profile to your device. Click on the pop-up window when it appears.  
  

You should be automatically directed to the Device Management in System Settings.  
Not opening automatically?

• Running Modern macOS:  System Settings → General → Device Management
• Older macOS versions:  System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles

Tip: If you don't see either option, press ⌘ + Space and search for Profiles or Device Management.

• Double click on the downloaded profile "Viewpoint School Viewpoint".
  Press Install.
  
   
• Press Install again.
  
   

• Authenticate (again!) using your Mac's password or Touch ID.

  
   

• ⚠️ IMPORTANT: do NOT press "Allow".
  Enter your Mac password, then select Always Allow.  
  
  TIP: Choosing Allow instead causes a password prompt each time you connect to Viewpoint Wi-Fi. If you accidentally clicked "Allow", you'll see this prompt again; next time select "Always Allow."

Step 6: Connect to "Viewpoint" Wi-Fi

• If you are off-campus click here.

The JoinNow app will now try to connect you to the "Viewpoint" Wi-Fi network.

Select "Allow" to any additional prompts.

The next window you should see is "Joined" or "Configuration succeeded." 

 

Step 7: Finish "Viewpoint" Wi-Fi Setup

Your MacBook should now automatically connect to "Viewpoint" whenever you are on campus.

Open System Settings > Wi-Fi.  Click the (...) button next to the network and select Network Settings. 


Under the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network, make the following changes:

• Set Private Wi-Fi Address to Off.
• Turn Limit IP Address Tracking Off.
  
  

Note: These settings are required for the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network and help ensure your device can connect and operate correctly. These settings only apply to the Viewpoint network and do not affect other Wi-Fi networks you join.
 

Step 8: Remove Old Wi-Fi Networks

To help ensure your Mac automatically connects to the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network whenever you're on campus, remove any previously saved Viewpoint wireless networks that are no longer needed.

1. Open System Settings → Wi-Fi.
2. Under Known Networks, look for other saved networks such as Onboarding-2026 or ViewpointGuest.
3. Click the (...) button next to each network.
4. Select Forget This Network.
   

Previously used the VPS Wi-Fi network?

If you also see VPS listed under Known Networks, you can't remove it here.  Instead:

1. Open System Settings → General → Device Management
       (Older versions of macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles)
2. Select the Viewpoint School VPS Wi-Fi profile.
3. Click the – (minus) button at the bottom of the window to remove the profile.
   When prompted, click Remove to confirm.
   
    
4. Return to System Settings → Wi-Fi and confirm that VPS is no longer listed under Known Networks.  This ensures your Mac uses the new Viewpoint Wi-Fi network instead of the legacy VPS network.

Final Notes

Congratulations! Setup is complete.

Your Mac should now automatically connect to the Viewpoint Wi-Fi network whenever you're on campus. This setup should continue to work for up to five years, provided your Viewpoint account remains active.

Off Campus?

• If you are off-campus or out of Wi-Fi range, you may see this message:
  
  Your device will automatically connect to Viewpoint Wi-Fi the next time you are on campus.   
  Press Continue.  Only press Retry if you need to start the enrollment process over again.  
  
  Once you are on campus, complete the steps 6-7.
