These instructions are specific to devices running macOS, including Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro. If you need to select a different device type, click HERE.
1. Make sure your device is online
- You will need an active network connection to proceed. If you are ...
- off-campus: connect to any trusted wireless network (like your home Wi-Fi)
- on-campus: select onboarding from the wireless network list (if your device is already connected to another network, that's OK too!)
2. Download the JoinNow app
- Launch your browser (Chrome or Safari) and go to https://getonline.viewpoint.org. This will automatically redirect you to the onboarding website.
- Select the first option "Wi-Fi Onboarding for Apple, Windows & Other Devices".
- Your macOS system should be automatically detected.
Click the JoinNow red button to continue. - A file called VPS_WiFi_Setup.dmg will begin to download.
- Double click the file in your Download menu to open it. Or go to your downloads folder or whatever destination you use for downloads.
-
Run the application "VPS_WiFi_Setup.app".
- Press OPEN at the prompt. (This prompt shows up the first time you run a new program downloaded off the internet.)
- Authenticate using your MacBook's password or Touch ID.
3. Authenticate with Viewpoint credentials
- Great! The next step involves authenticating with a valid Viewpoint account.
Press NEXT. - A new browser Sign In window appears. Sign in using your Viewpoint credentials.
Enter your Viewpoint email, followed by your password.
(If your browser was already signed in with your Viewpoint account, you may not be prompted.)
You should see a message that authentication was successful.
4. Install Configuration files
- Now that your identity has been confirmed, it's time to configure your device.
To see a short tutorial of this step, click here.
Press NEXT. - The JoinNow client will now download a configuration profile to your device. Click on the pop-up window when it appears.
If it disappears before you get a chance to click it, just open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Profiles. (You can also find Profiles using Spotlight search.)
- Double click on the downloaded profile "Viewpoint School VPS".
Press Install. - Press Install again.
- Authenticate (again!) using your device's password or Touch ID.
- Enter your device password and select Always Allow.
5. Connect to "VPS" Wi-Fi On-Campus
- If you are off-campus click here.
-
The JoinNow app will now try to connect you to the "VPS" Wi-Fi network.
- The next window you should see is "Joined" or "Configuration succeeded."
Congratulations!!! Pat yourself on the back... You Are DONE! - Your MacBook should automatically connect to "VPS" whenever you are on campus.
If you find your computer is automatically connecting to other networks such as "Viewpoint" or "onboarding", you can "forget" them from the Wi-Fi menu.
Open System Settings > Wi-Fi, find the unwanted network under "Known Networks", click the (...) menu button and select "Forget This Network..."
Off Campus?
- If you are off-campus or out of Wi-Fi range, you may see this message:
Don't worry... your device will automatically connect to VPS the next time you are on campus.
Press Continue. Only press Retry if you need to start the enrollment process over again. Alternatively you can simply close and re-launch the VPS_WiFi_Setup.app and resume from this step.
Final Notes
Once a device has been onboarded, it should continue to function for up to 5 years, provided your account remains active. If you ever need to re-enroll the same device a second time to use the "VPS" network, you'll first need to perform a couple cleanup tasks; instructions can be found here.
