These instructions are specific to devices running Microsoft Windows. While the screen captures were done on Windows 11, they should apply for Windows 10 and earlier. You will need to install this with administrator rights. If you are signed in as a Standard user you will either need to upgrade your access, or have an administrator's password available.
If you need to select a different device type, click HERE.
1. Make sure your device is online
- You will need an active network connection to proceed. If you are ...
- off-campus: connect to any trusted wireless network (like your home Wi-Fi)
- on-campus: double-click on onboarding from the wireless network list (if your device is already connected to another network, that's OK too!)
- If you see a check box to "Connect automatically" for "onboarding" - do NOT check it.
2. Download the JoinNow executable
- If connecting to on-campus's "onboarding" that should open a browser window, either in Chrome or Edge. (We recommend Chrome as you can have separate school and personal profiles. )
- If the browser doesn't open automatically to a page with the title "Viewpoint School-Viewpoint BYOD" with the Viewpoint logo, type in your browser to open:
https://getonline.viewpoint.org - It will auto-forward to this landing page by SecureW2.
Click on the “Wi-Fi Onboarding for Apple, Windows & Other Devices” within the red circle. - You should see a slightly different title line "Viewpoint School-VPS” welcome message for Windows indicating your personal device has been detected as Windows.
Click on the red button “JoinNow" within the red circle. - This will download an executable called VPS_WiFi_Setup.exe.
- Double-click to start the installation or Open File, if it does not automatically start.
- (lower-left) Chrome:
- (upper-right) Edge:
- If you see Windows Defender"SmartScreen" blocking the app, click on "More info"
and click on "Run away"
3. Installing and Authenticate using your Viewpoint credentials
- You should see User Access Control requesting to install the application. Click on Yes (the default is No.)
- A Settings dialog box will inform you it will authenticate your account now.
- Click on Next and this will take you to Google Single-Sign-On page.
- Enter your Viewpoint email and password and press NEXT.
(If you have previously signed in with these credentials, you may not be prompted. If you have both personal and Viewpoint accounts signed into Google, choose your Viewpoint account.)
(Employees-only) you may need to approve a push from Duo MFA. - The SecureW2 JoinNow installer will then resume. You will see it go from "Connecting..."
- To "Authenticating to VPS..."
- To "Joined"
- You may also notice this message in the browser when it is done. You can close both browser windows now.
- Click on "Done" to close the installer.
- You should now be connected to VPS Wi-Fi Network now.
5. Optional - clean-up
- Congratulations! You are now connected to the VPS network. We recommend you "forget" any unneeded networks such as "Viewpoint", "ViewpointGuest" and "onboarding" from the saved networks on your device. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to the lower-right-corner, click on Wi-Fi symbol, then the "greater than" symbol next to the Wi-Fi symbol:
- Then click "More Wi-Fi settings"
- Click on "Manage known networks."
- Click on Forget next to the Wi-Fi networks onboarding, Viewpoint and ViewpointGuest
