These instructions are specific to devices running Android OS, including Samsung, Google, Motorola and others, but hundreds of variations of Android exist - please email helpdesk@viewpoint.org if your version of Android does not work. If you need to select a different device type, click HERE.
1. Make sure your device is online
- You will need an active network connection to proceed. This could be...
- Cellular data: an active cellular data connection (5G, LTE, 4G, etc)
- Wi-Fi off-campus: connect to any trusted wireless network (like your home Wi-Fi)
If either of these two options apply to you, click HERE to skip a few steps that don't apply.
- Wi-Fi on-campus: select onboarding from the wireless network list - Open your WiFi settings and find and tap the SSID network called "onboarding".
- You should see a momentary "Sign in to Wi-Fi network onboarding" notification on top that you can tap, or wait until it is presented as "Sign in to the network / Not secured" and tap it.
- This will forward you to our onboarding site.
2. Download the JoinNow app
- If you are not forwarded automatically, launch your web browser and open https://wifi.viewpoint.org.
- Tap "Wi-Fi Onboarding for Android" next to the green Android mascot.
(This may loop back to same screen; if so, tap that same button again.)
- You should see a slightly different "Sign in to onboarding" welcome message for Android indicating your device has been detected as Android.
- Tap Download under this page's Step 1 to download the app called "SecureW2 JoinNow" from the Google Play store.
(Important: only download from the official Google Play store.) - If presented a warning like this, please tap Continue anyway via browser.
(You may see a notification ""onboarding" connected" and you may get looped back to the initial onboarding page. If so, click the same button again "Wi-Fi Onboarding for Android".) - You will be directed to the Google Play app store.
Only download the official SecureW2 JoinNow app from Google Play. - Make sure the publisher is SecureW2 and then tap Install.
3. Authenticate using your Viewpoint credentials
- Tap "Open" and this will take you to the Google sign-in page. (or launch the JoinNow app directly from your apps list)
- Enter your Viewpoint email and password and press NEXT.
(If you have previously signed in with these credentials, you may not be prompted. If you have both personal and Viewpoint accounts signed into Google, choose your Viewpoint account.)
(Employees-only) you may need to approve a push from Duo MFA.
4. Install the Wi-Fi profile
- This will ask to save a Wi-Fi profile on your device. Tap "Next".
- Then tap "Save".
- You should see a message stating "Your Device is now Configured for VPS!"
- If you get "In Order To Connect: Remove your old Wi-Fi network (if you don't need it)." you must turn also turn off and turn back on your WiFi.
5. Connect & clean-up
- Congratulations! You are now connected to the VPS network. We recommend you "forget" any unneeded networks such as "Viewpoint", "ViewpointGuest" and "onboarding" from the saved networks on your device. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click on the "Go to Wi-Fi Settings" link or simply open these settings from the Settings app.
- Tap the network name (it will try to connect to it); then tap the gear icon next to it and tap Forget. See the example screenshots below:
- Once this is complete it will re-connect to VPS automatically.
